The Ice Cream Fellowship was in place our Sunday PM Service; we had a fantastic turnout!!! The fellowship allowed members to build ice cream sundaes with a variety of toppings. It also included delicious desserts like Cherry Cobbler!

Apopka High grad designs shirts with Christianity in mind

The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Apopka. Andrew Freedman, 21, is designer and founder of Blood Bought Clothing, a Christian line of apparel, currently comprised of specially designed T-shirts.

” When I was a senior in high school, Matt Tyler, a vocalist for the Christian metal band, Today, had shown his own line of T-shirts called ‘Redemption Clothing.”‘ Freedman said. ” I asked him how he did it and he said it was just something he enjoyed doing and gave me a little advice. He is a Christian and it influenced me a lot because I am a Christian. ”

Freedman decided to do his homework. A 2008 Apopka High School grad, he spent his senior year drawing designs, and getting inspiration, he said. He talked to screen printers about cost, and spent time researching the colors people liked to wear and softness of the different brands of T-shirts. He decided on a 100 percent cotton shirt with a water-based screen printing that would let the shirt remain soft and supple.

“I wanted my designs to reflect that Christianity is not boring.” Freedman said. “I didn’t want to create a typical Christian T-shirt, but something different, something that showed Christian love.”

Local artist Cameron Nunez also helped design some of the shirts.

Freedman originally debuted the T-shirts in the fall of 2008, and has sold numerous shirts locally, but would love to expand his market.

Some of the designs are more subtle, with hidden phrases that would be known to other Christians, and other are more obvious to everyone, Freedman said.

Freedman added a partner to his business two months ago when he married the love of his life, Danielle, a girl he met at his church, Victory Church, World Outreach Center.

” I don’t make any decisions without her,” he said.

Since graduating from AHS, Freedman received an associate’s degree in business management from Valencia College. He currenty works at Broadway Pizza in Altamonte Springs.

A Jewish Christian, Freedman said he feels the clothing line is a way for him to give back to God what has been given to him.

“We donate 10 percent to our building fund at church,” he said. ” Our slogan is ‘Clothing With a Purpose.”‘

Freedman said his company’s target market is the age 13-21 bracket, but they have sold shirts to seven-year-olds and people in their 60s.

“There is a variety, so we have something for everyone,” he said.

The Freedmans also decided to sponsor a popular Orlando Christian hard-core band, called “Darkest Before Dawn.”

“If people want to go online right now, they can enter the code BACK2SCHOOL and it will give them a 15 percent discount,” Freedman said. “We also throw in a lot of extras when we mail the package out, such as Christian stickers, ear plugs (for a Christian rock concert), and something seasonal, like a candy bar during the Halloween season or a small present during the Christmas season. We always put in something fun, so your don’t just get a T-shirt.”
