Have you ever known someone who is always pointing fingers at others, but never accepts the blame themselves? So annoying right!? But before you move on too fast, take a quick second and ask yourself: has that person ever been me?!?

As humans beings, we have this nasty little tendency to be really quick to judge others but totally ignore our own gross behavior. For example: have you ever done something wrong but said “yeah, it was wrong… but I’m a good person! I didn’t reaaallly mean it!”

But the truth is God doesn’t look at it that way.

In Romans 2:11 the Bible says that God is no respecter of persons, and in Acts 10:34 it says that God doesn’t pick favorites! Wow! God is always fair and never treats one person differently than another. And even tho God certainly loves you, He also loves his other kids and won’t just give us a pass just because we’re… you know…us!

One of our goals as Christians is to help others, but Jesus taught us that before we can help others, we must first judge ourselves and get our own lives in order. Then, and only then, will we be able to see clearly enough to truly help others. It starts with you.

As you read this morning’s devotional scriptures ask yourself: have I been giving myself a pass when it comes to how I act? What areas can I fix in my life so that I can be a better help to others?

Devotional Scriptures

A person may think their own ways are right,
but the Lord weighs the heart.

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
